Because there are so many of them, it's easy to forget how hard a meme actually has to work to capture and keep our attention. It has to do something special to stand out against the hundreds of others that we might scroll through in the average guilty phone session. There has to be a good punchline, or an arresting visual that has it standing above the rest and that requires some skill. Not every meme is going to rise to those lofty heights.
